~Intervention Strategies~

      I had implemented some intervention strategies before the unexpected closure of our schools. I was working with Jaslene on her listening comprehension, because I feel like it is really important to be able to have good listening comprehension skills. I first started off the intervention process with learning about why she was struggling with listening comprehension, and excelling in reading comprehension. I asked her why she struggled with listening comprehension, she said that she was distracted by her environment and the lack of interest in the material. Reflection of this Experience

I really enjoyed this experience, I believe that it will be beneficial for my future as an educator. Although this semester didn't end the way I anticipated, I believe that I learned a lot in a short amount of time. I was very nervous walking into my first day of tutoring, I felt like I was going to forget something, or I wouldn't be able to help her in a way that will impact her. My student really helped me through this experience with her positive attitude and her willingnesss to participate. My student taught me a lot, and showed me that students struggle to understand material and they just need extra one on one help. My student was very bright and so smart, she blew me away and surpassed my expectations. When I was completeing the intitial Informal Reading Inventory, I was trying hard to focus on what she was struggling with. ~Day Three~

I reflected on what my student needed in order to become a stronger reader. I decided to choose a book in her reading level and her interest to read together so that I can help her better her comprehension skills. I chose a Magic Tree House book, I chose this book because it is intertaining to younger students and there is a lot of information and storyline in it. As I read the book, I will ask that my student listens to what is being read, and then at the end of each chapter, I will ask my student to write a paragraph summary of what occured in the chapter. As I was reading the first chapter, I noticed that my student seemed distracted. I stopped reading and asked if she had any questions, and she wanted to go back and get information that she thought was important for her summary, I helped her recall some of the important information that I have already read. ~Day Two~

Day two, I felt a little more prepared to tutor my student. She also seemed to be more comfortable around me, so it made the process more comfortable and easy. Last week, I noticed that my student was having a hard time with listening comprehension, and maintaining focus while I was reading. She was wonderful at comprehending her own reading, but starred off into space as I began to read. In the first session, I tried to get to know what my student liked and what sparked her interest, she told me that she really enjoyed writing, so I decided to implement that aspect into my sessions with her. This week I read some short stories to my student and I gave her a sheet with specific uestions on it and asked her to fill in the answers as she hears me read them. I thought that if she was able to write down the answers as I was reading it, it would be easier for her to understand how to spot out the answers. -DAY ONE FUN-

-SESSION ONE-            I was really nervous as I prepared for my first tutoring session for the Diagnostics class. I felt like I knew what I was doing, but I began to second guess myself, and I did not want to make any mistakes infront of my student. I walked into Ms. Tates classroom, and that is when I met my new friend Jaslene. She was super friendly and excited, that made me feel comfortable. She showed me where the library was so that we could begin our session. I began the session by asking a few questions to Jaslene, she was more than eager to answer them and that made everything easier for me. I wanted to figure out who she was, and how I could best help her. She told me she is the oldest of three children and her parents work a lot. She enjoys playing basketball and cannot wait until 5th grade when she can actually play basketball games for her school.
